Historic Significance of April 30th

On April 30, 1789, George Washington made U.S. history by participating in America’s first Inauguration ceremony. This came shortly after a bloody and hard-fought Revolutionary War was won, and during the inception of a small, yet strong and diligently built foundation upon which a young America stood. Who knew, at the time of George Washington’s first Inauguration, that the United States would grow to be such a powerful and successful country?
This day, which occurred 224 years ago, was also the day in which the nation’s first President participated in the first Inaugural Prayer Service at St. Paul’s Chapel along with members of Congress, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Vice President.
Much can be said about this incredibly historic day that occurred over two centuries ago, however, we’d like to emphasize the important fact that America was founded on the certainty of a nation’s relationship with God. Washington even said himself during his Inaugural Address:
“...the propitious smiles of Heaven, can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained...”
However, our nation has strayed from these incredibly vital words. April 30th is not only marks the anniversary of George Washington’s first Inauguration and Inaugural Prayer Service, but also the completion of the One World Trade Center, which stands in place 12 years after the previous towers were destroyed during the 9/11 attacks. The building stands as New York City’s tallest at 1,776 feet, and is a memorial to what happened on that fateful day. It is scheduled to be open for business in 2014.
Through all this, one must recognize the prophetic significance of April 30th. Not only is it a day to remember that our nation must adhere to the precepts of the Lord as presented during the first Presidential Inauguration and Inaugural Prayer Service, but also remember that He is warning our nation to return to Him. If we do so, perhaps America will be like the One World Trade Center, rising from the ashes of the enemy’s onslaught to be taller and stronger than ever before.
Prayer Points:
1. Thank and praise God for America’s foundation that was planted in the rich soil of His laws and precepts. Thank Him for blessing our nation in extraordinary ways as a result. (Psalm 33:12)
2. Pray that this nation would truly repent, turn to the Lord from wicked ways, and be healed. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
3. Ask God to give wisdom and strength to America’s leadership, and that their eyes would be opened to the glorious revelation of Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 1:2-4)
4. Pray that the Lord would lift our nation up from the ashes of sin and immorality, and make her stronger and more successful than ever before according to His mercy. (Isaiah 61:3)
5. Pray for revival to spark in America’s churches, communities, spheres of influence, and government offices. (Ezekiel 37)
